Action Targets Full Size Clearing Trap
Action Targets Full Size Clearing Trap
Dry firing a gun is often necessary to check its status and insure all rounds have been removed. Our double-walled clearing traps make this a safe and simple process.
This trap may be used to check handguns and rifles (up to .223 & .308), with complete confidence that the trap's armor steel chamber filled with composite rubber will safely contain any unexpected shots fired.
The Action Target Full Size Clearing Trap is perfect for shooting ranges, locker rooms, armories, gunsmiths, and correctional facilities.
Other clearing traps are available on the market, but at prices much higher than they need to be - some as high as $700! The Action Target Clearing Trap costs less than that amount. This low price does not reflect on the trap's quality as it is made of the finest steel and designed to meet our strictest standards. Rather, it reflects on Action Target's desire to provide a valuable service and give something back to the law enforcement community.

FAQs
How does the clearing trap contain bullets?: The interior steel box is made of ballistic armor steel and is filled with chopped rubber mixed with a fire retardant.
Can I fire rifle rounds into the Full-Size Clearing Trap?: Yes. The Full-Size Clearing Trap is designed to safely contain rifle rounds up to .223 and .308. It can also take any shotgun round including shotgun slugs.
How many rounds can I shoot into the clearing trap?: The Full-Size Clearing Trap can safely handle up to 250 fired rounds. Does the clearing trap need to be bolted down in order to function safely?: There are bolt holes in the base of the stand, but the Full-Size Clearing Trap does not need to be bolted down in order to be safely used. The bolt holes are there for convenience if you would like to prevent it from moving or tipping over should someone bump into it.
How far do I need to put the muzzle inside the trap in order to safely discharge the gun?: The muzzle only needs to enter the mouth of the trap a few inches in order for the gun to be safely discharged. Before firing, ensure the barrel is parallel with the body of the clearing trap.
Frequently asked questions
What is a bullet trap and how does it work?
A bullet trap is a safety device designed to stop bullets safely and prevent ricochet during ammunition discharge. It works by using deceleration chambers, steel plates, or ballistic rubber to absorb and capture bullets fired into it, making it an essential tool in shooting ranges and testing facilities.
Why are weapon clear devices important for gun safety?
Weapon clear devices are crucial for ensuring firearms are unloaded and safe to handle. These devices help prevent accidental discharge of ammunition, providing a secure way to check and clear firearms. They are vital for gun owners, law enforcement, and military personnel to promote responsible gun handling and safety.
Can bullet traps be used for all types of firearms?
Yes, bullet traps are designed to accommodate a wide range of firearms, from handguns to rifles. However, the specific design and material of a bullet trap may vary depending on the caliber and velocity of the ammunition it is intended to stop. Always ensure the bullet trap you use is rated for the specific type of ammunition you are discharging.
How often should a bullet trap be maintained?
The maintenance frequency for a bullet trap depends on its usage and the volume of ammunition discharged into it. Regular inspection and cleaning are crucial to ensure its effectiveness and longevity. Most manufacturers recommend a maintenance schedule, which can include checking for wear, removing trapped bullets, and ensuring all safety features are fully operational.
Are there environmental benefits to using bullet traps?
Yes, bullet traps offer significant environmental benefits by safely capturing bullets and preventing lead and other contaminants from dispersing into the environment. This containment helps protect soil and water sources from pollution, making bullet traps an environmentally responsible choice for ammunition discharge.
What should I look for when choosing a bullet trap or weapon clear device?
When selecting a bullet trap or weapon clear device, consider its capacity, compatibility with different types of ammunition, ease of maintenance, safety features, and environmental impact. It's also important to choose products from reputable manufacturers that comply with safety standards to ensure maximum protection and reliability.
How do bullet traps contribute to safer training environments?
Bullet traps play a crucial role in creating safer training environments by effectively stopping bullets, reducing the risk of ricochet, and minimizing noise pollution. This allows for more controlled and safe ammunition discharge, essential for professional training scenarios, shooting ranges, and law enforcement practice facilities.
What is an ammunition discharge device?
An ammunition discharge device is a safety tool designed to safely contain bullets fired from firearms. It is used in environments where live fire is necessary but must be contained to prevent injury or damage, such as shooting ranges, law enforcement agencies, and military training facilities.
How does an ammunition discharge device enhance safety?
These devices enhance safety by capturing and decelerating bullets, significantly reducing the risk of ricochet, back-splash, and noise. This ensures that bullets are stopped in a controlled manner, preventing injury to the user and bystanders, as well as damage to surrounding property.
Are there different types of ammunition discharge devices?
Yes, there are several types of ammunition discharge devices, including snail traps, steel traps, sand traps, and rubber traps. Each type uses a different mechanism to stop bullets, catering to various calibers, velocities, and frequencies of fire to meet specific safety and operational requirements.
Can ammunition discharge devices be used with any type of firearm?
Most ammunition discharge devices are designed to accommodate a wide range of firearms, from handguns to rifles. However, it's crucial to check the specifications of the device to ensure it's compatible with the caliber and velocity of the ammunition being used for optimal safety and performance.
